Best Puppy & Dog Food

I have some toy chihuahua puppys,and i want to know what is the best age to start giving them puppy food,and also what is the best age to find new homes for them?

you should be starting to wean them at 4weeks (ask your vet about this,) smaller breeds of dogs such as toys shouldn’t leave the litter before 10 weeks.

Realy you could just make a list of what you need and ask your vet/some one form a pet store/grooming salon,also you could try these….

When my dog has puppies we use these
1.) Top dog,profesinal, or just jonsen & jonsen babby shampoo ( depends on 3 things: your price range, age of the puppy, and your dogs’ breed/hair thickness & langth)

2.) For food it would also depend on a cople things puppy age, size/breed, and price range)…If the puppy is realy young i would give it ethier athority or pedagree with a mix of water and dry milk o top of their food to soften it….. If they are older use the same brands with out the milk…. or you can just call your vet and ask wat he sugests..

3.) At home we use this one kind but I don’t remember what it is called but again just ask a person at the store or your vet realy any kind works but, my dogs realy like the beef flavored ones…oh one other important thing to remember is that when you get the tooth paste
get one of those things that looks like a finger puppet tooth brush if your dog is still getting its teeth.

4. ) there is not realy one I would impreticularly sugest ask some one at the store. If it is a large breed I would sugest getting a bed that has ceder chips in it or somthing that smells good….

I have a 9 week old pure bred German Shepherd pup and I only want the absolute BEST for her! She is currently on Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy Food, which I’ve always thought was good but I read the ingredients and corn meal is listed as the second ingredient so now I’m not so sure it’s the best. I’ve always been told that the first 4 ingredients listed on a bag of dog food should be meat and not grains or by-products. I am thinking about getting into dog shows with her and possibly breeding her when she’s old enough. She is like one of my children and I really only want the best for her.

there is a website that does a comparison and rating of the different brands of dog food both wet and dry but I can not find it at the moment. my irish wolfhound puppy was raised on eukanaba, and iams, but on yahoo answers someone posted this dog food comparison website and told me that my puppy ( who is chewing his foot) would do better with canidae. according to the rating canidae is a good wholesome product for every stage of the dogs life. i have a beagle that will be a year in september he has been on purina puppy chow mixed with alpo wet since he was six weeks old and he is doing great. keep in mind beagles do not know when to stop eating. take his food away about an hour later if any is left. the best book i invested in was how to raise a beagle puppy located at any pet store. it also list foods that are not good for beagles that other breeds will be fine on, such as grapes. good luck they are great dogs

Benefuls is the best I give it to my dog and he is playful all day. go to a pet sore and if it is a puppy buy the puppy kind.

My shihtzu puppy is 6 and half months old currently taking pedigree puppy food. I want to change this diet since I heard Pedigree puppy food is not the best outthere. Anyone has any recommendations?

which puppy food is right for my future puppy? it is going to be a boston terrier so i need a puppy food and later on a good adult dog food. i want the dog food that will keep my puppy happy and healthy, and keep its coat looking his/her best! i was looking a beneful, but i have heard some bad things about it. are they true? is beneful good for my dog?

What to looks for:
1) Good meat sources – you want the first couple of ingredients to be a good protein source. You want the first ingredient to be chicken, lamb, salmon etc MEAL (more protein dense because the moisture was removed). You don’t want anything like meat meal though, or digest.
2) You don’t want to see any corn or wheat. Instead look for barley.
3) No by-products.
4) No fillers, like corn
5) No BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin…you want natural preservatives.
6) No dyes

Here are some good brans – Wellness, Innova EVO, Merrick, Eagle Pack Holistic Select (not regular eagle pack), Nature’s Variety Instinct, Solid Gold, Orijen, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul etc…

Don’t believe everything you see on TV – Pedigree, Iams, Eukanuba, Ol’ Roy, Beneful, Science Diet, these are all garbage with a good name because they are good at advertising.

Let me guve you a little lesson – the ingredients that are put into foods that you find at Wal-Mart or groceries stores are low quality and almost useless for your animals. They contain "fillers". Fillers include things like corn…which animals cannot even digest, so you are feeding them food that they cannot use. They also contain "by-products" which can include dead or diseased meat that did not pass for human consumption or any other parts of any animal that is not meat (ie, lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, livers, blood, bone, partially defatted low temperature fatty tissue, and stomachs and intestines).

On the other hand you can buy high quality food – All of these foods do NOT contain any fillers (like corn, corn gluten meal), any grains or by-products. They are more expensive then regular foods – but you are paying for quality because your dog CAN digest approximately 94% of what is in the bag (compared to approx. 40% of other foods)

I would like to start giving my Yorkie some soft puppy food mixed in with his hard food as a treat for one of his meals per day. I am very concerned with nutrition since he is so little, so I thought I would get an opinion on what is best for Yorkies?

I wouldn’t recommend a soft food for a puppy, especially not one that is a toy breed, as Yorkies are, because toy breeds’ teeth are more crowded in the jaw and more prone to decay and feeding a soft food can cause this process to happen even faster.

HOWEVER. If you are really determined to feed your dog a soft food, read the ingredients on the cans carefully before making your choice. Taste isn’t always an indicator of quality, bear that in mind. Just because your dog likes the taste and likes to eat it doesn’t mean it is good for her. I recommend Innova, Innova EVO, Wellness, Natural Balance or Eagle Pack.
